Mommy's Little Rock Star

This is Drew.
Big blue eyes. Handsome cheeky grin. Silly smiles and chubby legs. Lots of love and kisses for mommy (and even a few hugs for me!)
Drew was such a good boy for our session, which lasted well over an hour. He survived outfit changes, hats and hairstyles, props and posing, and even managed to make a pretty adorable mess with his birthday cake (specially made by his mom!)
I love being able to capture a little one's personality during a session, and I think we did a pretty good job putting a little bit of 'Drew' into every picture  :)

Fun Day Birthday

A 'baby's first birthday' session might just be my favorite session for lots of reasons.
1. One-year-olds are my favorite kind of people
2. Lots of variety with posing and outfits
3. Most of the birthday boys or girls are easy to make smile, and won't run away
4. Chubby baby bellies and roley poley legs
5. CAKE SMASH!
This first birthday was no exception! Lots of adorable outfits and poses, all ending with a very fun, very messy, and very adorable cake smash!
Take a look at this handsome birthday boy, and the mess he made with his cake...

Itty Bitty Newbie

There is nothing in the whole wide world quite as lovely as a newborn baby.
Their smell. Their soft skin. Their mellow disposition (so mom and dad hope!). Their cuddles. Their itty bitty noses, fingers, and toes. Their pudgy feet.
Sweet baby Landon had all of this and more. He is such a good boy, eating and sleeping well, and just relaxing and listening to the kids playing while he's awake.
I was lucky enough to get up to see Landon while he still had all of these itty bitty features. But at just six days old, he was so alert and very strong too.
Newborns, as sweet at they are, can be difficult to photograph. Used to sleeping most of the day, they seem to be confused by all of the poking and prodding that comes with portraiture, so in my experience, it's not as easy as it looks to get a newborn soundly off to sleep while taking his or her picture. That being said, I still think we managed to capture some very sweet pictures of new baby Landon (and his wonderful family).

Bette Davis eyes

Well, not exactly. But she's got Rebecca's eyes, and they're just gorgeous!
Along with her beautiful blue eyes, little Rebecca came for 1-year portraits with an adorable white dress, lots of fancy bows, and a sweet little smile. She was such a good girl, posing, grinning, and looking my direction, all while dealing with outfit and backdrop changes.
Standard portraits started our session, then mom brought out a super cute (and handmade!) cake and coordinating birthday hat. Rebecca started off cautiously, just dipping her fingers in the frosting, but managed to get more than messy when all was said and done.

Take a look at birthday girl Rebecca!

Boys and Girls

I always wondered about the argument of 'nature vs. nurture'. How much of who we are is innate, and how much is learned from our surroundings?
Then I had kids. And I learned very quickly that boys will be boys, and girls will be girls. Boys are, for the most part, carefree, messy, and silly. They like dirt and trucks, and would rather plow over something then gently walk around it. But, boys can also be super sweet with adorable grins and giggles. Girls are, for the most part, emotional, dramatic, sensitive, and more careful. They like things to go as planned, and all things that glitter and sparkle. They can also be crazy and messy, but in a girly kind of way.
These siblings, although both adorable in their own ways, were very different. Kason is a boy. and Emma is a girl. and that's that!
Take a look at this adorable duo!

Little Monkey Birthday

Jackson is back, and he's one year old!
For this 1-year combo session, we started with an adorable outfit and some silly grins, switched gears to some 'beach bum' poses and a July 4th outfit, and ended with a very silly, very messy, very adorable 'Little Monkey' cake smash.
He like the frosting, and was certainly having fun picking it off his toes, but wasn't a big fan of messy hands.
A big challenge to this session was the speed of little Jackson! He crawled and scooted around quicker than the click of my camera, so we had to do a bit of trickery in the form of snacks or toys to make him stay put!
Overall we ended with some super cute shots of this happy birthday boy...
